Why Study in Canada?

Study in Canada would be a beautiful experience for anyone, literally, since Canada is ranked as the BEST PLACE in the world to LIVE. Because of its access to education, high life expectancy and low crime rates, Canada is a very attractive destination for students throughout the world.
There are more than 175 post-secondary institutions that offer various programs such as Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor’s, including vocational and adult-education. These institutions are known as Community Colleges, Technical Institute, University College and CEGEPS. All these colleges are members of the Association of Canadian Community colleges.
A degree from a Canadian university is recognized world-wide and as a result, international students who graduate from Canadian universities enjoy successful and prosperous careers.

Admission

Admission requirements vary from one university to another. However, as a general rule, Canadian institutions prefer applicants with very good academic background and decent scores in TOEFL or IELTS for admission. A four-year Bachelor’s degree is required for admission into M.S/MBA programs, with a minimum of mid-B grades (around 70%).All the programs in all fields of specialization are available for study in Canadian institutions at all levels.
One important factor is time. It takes at least one year for the whole admission process to be completed. Most institutions have a January deadline for September intake. Hence, it would be in your best interest to apply at least one year before the start of semester. Most universities & colleges offer admission to international students during following months:
  • September - December
  • January – April
  • June to August is the period of vacation
Who is Eligible?

Canadian universities and other higher education institutes have their own general guidelines and eligibility criteria according to which they take students. They have set up their own application checklist and deadlines. Every international student who wants to go in some particular choice of college should start the application procedure well in advance. This would help you to get information about scholarships as well and other financial aid.
To study in Canada one should meet the most important criteria that include financial aid. Money to study, live and return back to the home country should be granted without that you cannot be given admission in any of the universities of Canada.
Other eligibility criteria includes academic records of past schooling, character certificate, a valid passport, an offer letter of the college in which you want to enrol and medical checks as listed under the visa norms. Minimum IELTS score 6.0/6.5 band is must for undergraduate and 6.5/7.0 for postgraduate student. TOEFL is also accepted.

How much funds?

A) Cost of Education
These costs will vary depending on the course or institution. This is average costs and should only be used as a guide

B) Cost of Living
For accommodation, students have a number of options available that can be on-campus or off-campus such as hostels, rented housing, homestay etc. The cost of living can vary depending on the city. However, it would be depending upon the location of their residence but on an average, a student need between CAD $ 8,000-12,000per annum as cost of living in Canada. This amount would cover accommodation on rent, food, clothing, transport etc.

C) Financial Proof for Visa
For a student visa, a proof of funding is required CAD 22000 - 32000 $ (approx. INR 12 Lakhs–16.50 LAKHS per annum).
Scholarships and awards for international students are available at some Canadian institutions for students with exceptional results. The amount and type of award varies from one institution to another. Obtaining a scholarship is competitive.


Working in Canada

Full-time students registered in a degree or diploma-granting course are allowed to work on the campus of the institution at which they are registered without the need for an employment authorisation. This includes on-campus employment for graduate, teaching or research assistants.
Spouses of full-time students are eligible for open or open/restricted employment authorisation, depending on medical requirements having been met.

Visa Process

After securing admission into the College/University, one must start with the visa formalities. In order to get a Student Visa in Canada, you must satisfy the norms of the Visa requirements and your student visa will list the conditions that apply specifically to you. It is important to comply with your visa conditions to avoid visa cancellation.
A non-refundable visa application charge of CAD $125 OR Rs. 6625/- applies to most visa applications, with the exception of secondary exchange students and students sponsored under Commonwealth approved programs. In addition, there may be other expenses associated with your visa application, such as costs for medical examinations, police checks, and the translation of documents into English (if required).
